My Application to the Real World

Well, yesterday was graduation. The whole thing took about 2 1/2 hours...ugh. The part that really sucked was that they had us line up almost an hour before we even started the processional, so we had to stand there and wait forEVER without anyone even telling us what we were supposed to do. And then the guest speaker thought he was a whole lot more profound than he really was, and everyone started nodding off. Oh well, I'm done! And I didn't trip! so all is good. On the bright side, we got to sit by whoever we wanted as long as we were within our college, so my friend Joni and I pretty much goofed around the whole time.

Afterwards my mom's side of the family (14 of us) went to Louise's for dinner. Yum! It was a very long day, but I'm excited to finally be a college grad. Now...as our cheesy guest speaker said, "It's time to put in my application to the real world!" (mtv?)

So during the little time I've had off since finishing my internship at Innovative, I've been studying for my NSCA-CPT exam, which is a nationally recognized personal training certification. I don't want to be a trainer full-time but at least that will give me an opportunity for work right away, and it's always a good side job. I have also been searching for jobs, and I put my resume online. It seems there is not very much available in the health and fitness field right now - aside from personal training. I did find one job that I really want, but I don't have enough experience so I'm not getting my hopes up. It's for an experiential therapist at Roger's Memorial Hospital. I would be working with teens in the psych ward with eating disorders, ocd, anxiety, etc. and developing exercise plans as well as taking them on outdoor adventure activities like hiking, biking, and kayaking as therapy. Love it! That would be the perfect job for me! But they are looking for someone with clinical experience, so I guess I can only hope :-/ Other than that, there is not much out there, at least in Milwaukee.

In the meantime, I have discovered an awesome new drink! My brother works at Good Harvest, and he always brings me free stuff home. Which is awesome because health food/organic food stores are usually expensive. Anyway, its called VitaCoco. It's coconut water with a hint of whatever flavor natural juice you choose. For instance, the one I'm drinking now is coconut water with pineapple. It's a natural rehydrant, and after looking at the nutrition facts, and knowing what I know from sports nutrion classes, it's like a naturally perfect sports drink. At 6% carbohydrates, the carbs can get absorbed as quickly as possible - this is the perfect % for energy production when you are running, playing sports, etc. This is why sports drinks like gatorade are made at exactly 6% CHO. It only has natural sugar from the juice and a whole bunch of vitamins. Not to mention it's super yummy. But if you don't like coconut, don't try it - you wont like it. :-)

Well, It's going to be 70 today, which means summer is coming! (finally). So I think I'm going to go study on the balcony today. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what the real world has to offer! I will keep you updated on my unemployment adventures! peace.
